I have been using php4 successfully for a little while now. However, I have been asked to restore an old defunct project that was written by someone else in php 3. The project was once installed on a virtual host back in Feb 1999 when php3 was the current version. The shared server is now running php4, and the server admins don't want to run any risks in running both modules. So, I am trying to reinstall the site on a development server that I can control. couldn't migrate to php4 - have no idea why

I have a perfectly running php3-mysql-apache-linux system. I want to upgrade to php4. Cause I want the current system continue untill I am sure that the new one runs fine, I tried to install apache-php4 in a new directory. I used the instructions at http://www.linuxguruz.org/z.php?id=31 except that I didn't try to install mysql again and I didn't use /usr/local/apache as the directory. Apache didn't start. Not sure if this is on the right list or not, but I have a little bit of a complaint... killing php_track_vars like that in a minor minor version upgrade and hiding it away in a change log, that was quite upsetting. PHP 4.0.2 update

Hi all, I compiled and installed the libphp4.so (4.0.2) and copied it over the old lib. When I make <?php phpinfo() ?>, I get still the old version number (4.0.1pl2). - Why ??? I restarted the webserver, deleted the old source-tree, tried to remove the LoadModule modules/libphp4.so from the httpd.conf and reinserted it. No results - still the same problem. Hi there: I ve just installed php 4 on my pc, however i have some problems,i have allready compiled php4, and added ADDTYpe etc to the httpd conf file, i have also comented the lines addmodule php3 etc but when i restart the apache server it complains it can find libmysql.so.6. i dont know what it can be can anyone help me??, Also if I comment the lines of php4 and un-comment the lines of php3 it works perfectly. getting mysql to work with PHP *cannot find "configure"*

my PHP 3 was installed with the linux OS and i just installed mysql. to get it work i need to run 'configure --with-mysql=DIR' problem is PHP 3 was probably rpm installed. thus no 'configure' could be found. funny thing is i can't find the PHP source from the library/tools CD that came with linux. wonder how it got in there. i am thinking of upgrading to PHP 4. does that solve the problem? how do i go about it? thanks in advance beesh
