PHP Groups wiki now on wiki.php.net
I just wanted to take a moment to let you know that we now have a
namespace on the official PHP.net wiki:
http://wiki.php.net/usergroups
I've already put some content there, and I created a section for a PHP
user group handbook that I'd like for us to work together to create:
http://wiki.php.net/usergroups/handbook
I think everyone has valuable experiences that we can draw from to work
together to draft a good resource for those who are running user groups
or looking to start one.
If you'd like editing access to the usergroups namespace on the wiki,

PHPBenelux
Hi all,
Last saturday, the Dutch and Belgian usergroups announced something big
at the TestFest: Both usergroups will merge into one big usergroup for
the Benelux. This is a logical step since we're all doing about the same
thing for a similar geographical region. Merging is a good idea because
we can now work more efficiently, and hopefully have a bigger
negotiating power towards sponsors and companies that we would like to
get discounts from such as conferences and publishers.
As such, phpBelgium and phpGG will cease to exist under their respective
names, and are now php

Sydney Php Group update
Hi all
We had a great May meeting looking at "commercialisation of innovations" with
approx. 25 in attendance at Mobile Messenger Sydney. Notes are up on the blog
at sydphp.org if anyone is interested.
The Planet format is starting to kick off although I'm having some trouble
getting people to understand the concepts of aggregation/RSS etc (?!?) - not
sure about technically more about wider exposure for aggregated blogs etc. Any
thoughts or tips on how that can be sold ?
Finally, if anyone has any tips on monetizing job ads/traffic from recruiters

European PHP TestFest video feeds
Hi,
At the Dutch PHP Usergroup we've gotten the idea to make a stream of our
TestFest event. We'll be using Ustream to stream the whole event to the
Internet. Not sure if it will be useful, but it will be a fun experiment.
Now, it will be even more fun if all other European TestFests on May 9th
will do the same thing. We could then also make a page with all the
streans listed on it, so people can watch the streams and see what is
going on. This might be a nice addition to the #phptestfest on freenode.
Any other usergroups doing or willing to do the same thing?

European PHP TestFest
Hello everyone,
This message is mainly meant for those European usergroups participating
in the European TestFest on May 9th: It would be good if every
usergroup, together with their mentor, would decide on an
extention/functionality to focus on. This will prevent duplication of
work by multiple people working on the same part of PHP and writing
tests for the same functionality. I think it would be best if the part
you will focus on is put on the testfest wiki page on wiki.php.net so
that everyone knows what the other user groups are focussing on and can
make their choice ac

Using Google Groups for user group mailing lists?
Atlanta PHP recently migrated to Google Groups (from our own hosted
Mailman instance) for our mailing lists. I also found out that DC PHP
recently moved to Google Groups, as well, and Hans (of NYPHP) mentioned
to me that other groups have done the same and was wondering about the
rationale for the moves.
What do you use for your mailing lists? Why? If you've moved your lists
to something like Google Groups, why did you do so, and what did you
move away from?

Sydney PHP Group update
Hi all
Just a brief update to let you know what's happening at sydphp. You may
remember from a few months back that we'd considered shutting down the forums
due to inactivity and from the fact that we didn't want to be just another
support forum for people - we've carried that out and have updated sydphp.org
to just use wordpress with a planet plugin configured (Feed Wordpress).
Membership is still free and we currently have 3 volunteer organisers doing
the group organisation.
We're now aggregating member blogs via RSS and ATOM, which gives us more of a

The content that is currently on the wiki is what I had stored in my

Anyone who wants to volunteer to clean up the wiki and bring some

ZendCon Panel:Attendance & Avoidance
One thing I can absolutely verify is that location can be crucial to
your attendance, both the quantity and the nature of your membership.
DallasPHP originally stabilized on the campus of University of Texas
at Dallas - near Central Expressway, where one member (a UTD faculty
member) served as our Campus Sponsor. When he changed jobs after a
little over a year and was unable to serve as liaison, we had to find
a new space. Our next location was another local campus about 10
miles away. In a state as big as Texas, people get used to driving.
10 miles is nothing. But

I have never seen an online user group list that wasn't a "Fire and
